Tunnel and Star Vision

A specific named vision that can arise as the sushumna opens beyond the brow: a bright, rainbow-colored tunnel with a five-pointed white star at its center. A milestone of purification, not a destination — split out from Purification Symptoms as its own page because of its distinct iconography and cross-tradition parallels.

The vision

Especially during yoni mudra kumbhaka, practitioners may see a bright circle — the inside of the sushumna seen as a tunnel of color, often forming a rainbow from dark red at the bottom to violet at the top — with a five-pointed white star at the center, the far end of the channel: "the light at the end of the tunnel." Lesson 92.

How it relates to other traditions

The same vision is commonly reported in near-death experiences. AYP notes the same anatomy appears in the Sri Yantra diagram and in the descriptions found in Norman Paulsen's Sacred Science — different traditions independently describing the same inner structure.

What to do with it

Mostly nothing. It's a beautiful purification milestone, not a destination:

  • Don't grasp the star, don't push it away.
  • Don't make seeing it a prerequisite for practice — many practitioners never see it; many see it once and not again.
  • The work of this life is purifying the nervous system, not running off into the star. See yoni mudra kumbhaka for the longer treatment of the practice this vision is most associated with.

Lesson 92: "A vision is not the big payoff in yoga. Eternal freedom in enlightenment is!"

How it relates to other pages

  • A specific instance of the broader purification symptoms catalog — welcome, don't chase, return to the procedure.
  • Most closely associated with yoni mudra kumbhaka, the practice during which it's most often reported.
